Calgary-based Aurora Gold (VSE), drilling in the vicinity of a former producer at its Whitehorse Copper Belt property, has intersected copper mineralization in one of four reverse circulation holes. Hole GR-90-2, collared to the south of the Grafter deposit, intersected two zones of copper mineralization: 100 ft. averaging 1.49% copper, 0.011 oz. gold per ton, and 0.18 oz. silver at 90 ft. (including 24 ft. grading 3.59% copper at the top of the zone) and 55 ft. grading 1.93% copper, 0.016 oz. gold and 0.41 oz. silver at 340 ft.
The Grafter deposit, mined in the early 1900s, produced about 12,000 tons of development ore grading 7% copper.
Aurora Gold is earning a 100% interest in 100 claims along the Whitehorse Copper belt from Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting by spending $1 million over a 5-year period and making property payments of $600,000.
The company says it is encouraged by the recent results and will soon begin drilling three more holes along strike of the copper zone.
