The U.S. federal government has been asked to conduct an inventory of abandoned mine sites.
The request came from the president of the American Mining Congress (AMC), John Knebel, who asked for an inventory “so that all parties can agree on the scope of the problem.”
A Congressional hearing is scheduled to investigate unreclaimed hardrock mines in the U.S.
