Robotech Industries Ltd., through distributor Northern Consolidated Equipment of Sudbury, Ont., has introduced a remote-controlled skid steer loader that would be handy in hazardous underground situations or any environment that proves life-threatening.
Instead of the customary front-end bucket, the converted Melroe 753 can be outfitted with a 7-axis Kodiak manipulator arm, hydraulic barrel grapples, or dry chemical or foam fire-fighting systems. The speed/ direction and lift/tilt functions are controlled by two dual-axis, self-centering joysticks. Other switches on the transmitter panel start and stop the machine, control r.p.m., engage and release the parking brake, operate the driving lights and activate the auxiliary functions.
The Bobcat Operating Sensing System (BOSS) records from up to 4 km. away all the machines vital signs, such as engine speed, temperature and oil pres-sure on an LCD screen.

The JCB 530-B Loadall isnt exactly a new piece of equipment. But when it was taken 4,600 ft. underground at the Kidd Creek mine recently it was certainly a first in terms of application.
The Loadall aided in installing an overhead bridge crane in a maintenance shop at the mine. It was chosen because the lengthy ramp access limited the amount of machinery that could be taken down. The Loadall performs all the materials-handling functions of scissor lifts, fork lifts and loaders. The JCB 530-Bs telescopic boom reaches 36 vertical ft., 23 ft. forward and has a maximum lift capacity of 8,000 lb.
