Quest Int’l to explore Djibouti

Quest International Resources (QIX-T) and its private partner, Seven Stars Minerals, have signed an agreement with Djibouti for the exploration of mineral resources in this small East African nation.

Situated at the point where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden, the dominantly Muslim country has an area of 23,200 sq. km and a population of about 500,000. The geology is dominated by the East African rift system, which extends south through Ethiopia, Kenya and parts of Uganda.

Djibouti has seen little or no systematic exploration for minerals. The most recent work included an evaluation by the U.S. Geological Survey during the early 1990s, which concluded that the area has the potential for hosting economic deposits of gold, copper, lead and zinc.

Initial inspection by Quest’s president, Donald Gustafson, revealed high-level epithermal environments in volcanic and sedimentary rocks, similar to deposits in Nevada.
