Medinah drilling hits in Chile

Drilling at the Alto de Lipangue gold-copper project in central Chile is returning long intervals of significant mineralization for Medinah Energy (MDIN-O).

The 5,000-ha prospect, situated in the coastal foothills, 40 km northwest of Santiago, has so far been subjected to five drill holes, including hole DDH-3, which encountered 148 metres of gold mineralization grading 1.1 grams gold per tonne. Mineralization in the vertical hole started at a depth of 91 metres within a silicified hydrothermal breccia. Veins and blebs of massive pyrite and chalcopyrite measured up to 3 cm.

Included in the intercept were an 11-metre interval (from 97 to 108 metres) grading 3.7 grams gold per tonne and a 46-metre interval (from 113 to 159 metres) at 2 grams gold.

The interval also contained significant copper values, including 72 metres (from the start of the mineralized interval) of 0.47% copper. A 36-metre interval (from 91 to 127 metres) ran 0.78% copper.

The company collared hole DDH-3 in the centre of a large resistivity/induced-polarization anomaly measuring 400 by 200 metres.

Hole DDH-5, collared 25 metres to the southwest, hit shorter intervals of high-grade gold, including a 7-metre interval (from 106 to 113 metres) grading 11.3 grams gold and 1.6% copper. Within that interval were 3 metres grading 20 grams gold and 2.2% copper.

The company drilled hole 5 to a depth of 348 metres, though assay results from the lower portions of the hole are pending.

Hole DDH-4, drilled at an angle 115 metres northeast of DDH-3, was abandoned at 120 metres before intersecting mineralization. Holes DDH-1 and -2 encountered only anomalous gold and copper values.

Medinah returned to the area around hole DDH-3 and collared hole DDH-6, about 25 metres to the north. The hole cut massive chalcopyrite at a depth of 35 metres. Drilling continues below 200 metres, with assays expected in the next few weeks.

The company plans to conduct more drilling around the anomaly, as well as on the neighbouring Las Dos Marias target. Mineralization at Las Dos Marias consists of stratabound replacement of porous volcanic rocks.

The Lake Elsinore, Calif.-based company owns an 80% interest in Alto de Lipangue, with the remainder held by a local Chilean family.
