Conquest Resources (CQR-V) and joint venture partner Trade Winds Ventures (TWD-V) have begun drilling at the Aurora gold property in the Detour Lake mining camp of northeastern Ontario.
The program is a first-phase preliminary drill campaign designed by Trade Winds to evaluate the alteration features and stratigraphy along three of the main structural breaks that cross the main Aurora claim block from west to east. Trade Winds plans a minimum of 2,000 metres in this helicopter-supported drill program.
A major drilling program is planned after freeze-up when access to all areas of the property, located immediately south of the Detour mine, is possible. The initial drilling will evaluate the 2,000 metre long GB gold zone identified by Conquest in its 2003 drill program, together with the Central and Northern Zones where gold mineralization was previously identified.
Conquest has recently completed a surface exploration program on the main Aurora property, which included geochemical soil sampling over the GB gold zone.
Previous drilling at GB by Conquest and Placer Dome intersected gold mineralization with values up to 58.53 grams gold per tonne over 3.0 metres and over areas of anomalous reverse circulation drilling deep overburden gold anomalies.
Similar drilling previously carried out by Westmin Resources detected four strong gold-in-till anomalies at the bedrock interface in the vicinity of the Central and Northern Shear Zones. Several reverse circulation holes yielded heavy mineral concentrate samples with gold-in-till values of greater than 15 grams per tonne, together with high counts of visible gold grains.
