Yellowjack tests property for bulk-tonnage potential

An exploration program aimed at developing bulk-tonnage heap-leachable reserves has begun on a land package acquired by Yellowjack Resources (VSE) in Clarke Cty., Nev., about five miles north of Viceroy Resources’ Castle Mountain mine.

The company initially acquired four claim groups, including a core group formerly explored by a previous operator which carried out a 10-hole drill program in 1980. Selected results include 100 ft. of 0.10 oz. gold per ton and 120 ft. of 0.15 oz. gold. This mineralization was encountered at or near surface, and the property is considered prospective to host a bulk-tonnage deposit.

Yellowjack recently added three claim groups to the land package, the most advanced of which hosts a preliminary reserve estimated at 390,000 tons grading 0.05 oz. gold, within a potential reserve of 3.3 million tons. Results from a shallow drill program in 1973 returned weighted average assays of 0.051 oz. gold from 16 of 22 holes over an average thickness of 20 ft. A production-oriented drill program of 176 shallow holes was carried out in the 1980s, which Yellowjack says confirmed the earlier reserve potential of 3.3 million tons.

The Big Tiger group was previously explored by Tenneco in 1984 for its precious metals potential. The 10-hole program identified broad areas of mineralization; results include 70 ft. of 0.026 oz. gold and 45 ft. of 0.036 oz. gold.

The Red Star group was explored by a previous operator which encountered a structurally controlled siliceous zone and reported consistent assays of greater than 0.10 oz. gold. Tenneco did some drilling on this target in 1984, and results include 30 ft. of 0.062 oz. gold and 10 ft. of 0.029 oz. gold. Yellowjack is now completing a full geologic report on the land package, and a title review of its holdings in preparation for an aggressive exploration program.
