Vancouver – The latest round of drill results from Nevsun Resources‘ (NSU-T) Bisha project in Eritrea is increasing its potential for a longer mine life. A deep drill hole intersected 60 plus metres of massive sulphides to a vertical depth of 375 metres. Results are pending for this hole, however, the sulphides include sphalerite and chalcopyrite.
The Bisha Main zone is a volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit for which three zones of mineralization have been outlined. These comprise an upper oxidized zone about 30 metres thick, containing high gold grades; a copper-enriched supergene zone in which gold is less significant and; a zone of primary sulphides with high grade zinc, good copper, gold and silver with lesser amounts of lead.
Most of the latest results are from the primary sulphide zone. Highlights include Hole B-169 with 33.0 metres grading 6.59% zinc, 1.94% copper, 92.34 grams silver and 0.97 grams gold per tonne; Hole B-171 with 35.2 metres grading 8.88% zinc, 1.55% copper, 72.56 grams silver and 0.93 grams gold and; Hole B-172 with 30.0 metres grading 8.36% zinc, 1.15% copper, 55.60 grams silver and 1.09 grams gold.
The mineralization is continuous along strike and down dip. The strength of the mineralization increases the potential for a significant deposit of primary sulphides below the oxide and supergene zones.
Infill reverse circulation (RC) drilling is now under way on the Bisha Main zone. The oxide and supergene zones will be Nevsun’s target for 8,000 metres of RC drilling in the next few months. An independent resource estimate is anticipated by the end of June 2004.
