Sutton Res. intensifies work at Bulyanhulu

Drilling has resumed at the Bulyanhulu gold project in Tanzania.

In 1996, Sutton Resources (STT-V) completed more than 22,000 metres of drilling at the property, in which it holds a 85% interest. The remaining interest is held by the Tanzanian government.

Two diamond drill rigs tested the Reef 1 zone; another attempted to increase the gold resource; and a fourth drilled shallow infill holes in the narrow, high-grade side of the deposit.

Some areas at the western end of Reef 1 feature an additional, sub-parallel gold vein, called Reef 0, and several holes intersected both structures.

Results include: 5.4 metres grading 27.9 grams gold per tonne in hole 227; 3.5 metres of 22.8 grams in hole 228; 4.1 metres of 10.2 grams in hole 229; 5 metres of 16.1 grams in hole 230; 7.3 metres of 8.8 grams in hole 231; and 6.4 metres of 10.1 grams in hole 232.

At Reef 0, results include: 1.7 metres grading 16 grams in hole 244; 1.5 metres of 18.2 grams and 1.6 metres of 90.6 grams in hole 249; and 2.2 metres of 15 grams and 2.3 metres of 18 grams in hole 257.

The portion of the deposit that occupies Reefs 1 and 2 is estimated to contain 7.25 million tonnes grading 15.4 grams, equivalent to 3.5 million contained ounces. Reef 1 alone holds about 3.2 million oz.

Shallow, reverse-circulation holes are being drilled in an effort to test the near-surface oxide zone of Reef 2. (This zone has been illegally mined for years.)

The company states that, based on positive assay results, there may be potential for additional gold resources amenable to open-pit methods.

A feasibility study at Bulyanhulu is expected in the first quarter of 1998.
