Second life for old mine

The Ward Mountain property, which can trace its beginnings back to 1870, was operated for 10 years as a silver mine with zinc and copper byproducts.

Now, with the higher prices for base metals, the publication Metal Bulletin reports operators Silver King Mines and Pacific Silver are hopeful of processing material from the mine beginning this autumn at a nearby concentrator. Stockpiling of ore at the mine is already under way. Grades, allowing for dilution, are reported to be 6.1% zinc, 1.1% copper, 1.1% lead and 2.4 oz silver per ton.
