Bruno Goetting, former mine manager of Teck Corp.’s Beaverdell (Highland Bell) mine died recently in Penticton, B.C. He was 68. Born in Germany, Goetting received his early education in Hanover. He studied geology at the University of Hamburg, graduating in 1951.
In 1952, he immigrated to Canada and was hired as assistant engi0000,0506 neer at the Beaverdell silver mine in south-central British Columbia. Then he progressed from mine engineer to assistant mine manager and was appointed mine manager in 1966. Bruno held this position until he retired in June, 1988, after serving 36 years at the mine. Beaverdell became part of Teck in 1971.
Much of the credit for the Beaverdell mine’s success during the last few decades is attributed to Goetting. He often said: “We only have a few more months of ore but we expect to maintain our production of 1,000 oz. a day for the next few years.”
As well, he was an avid mineral collector, whose mineral collection has been purchased by Teck for future exhibit.
