New reserves are discovered by Rouyn, LAC

The discovery lies 150 ft north of the main zone, has a dip of 50-55 degrees and was intersected by drilling on a 635-ft strike length. The known vertical height is 200 ft, the average horizontal width is 18 ft and the grade is 0.26 oz gold per ton, the company says.

Rouyn reports 200 ft of drifting and raising has been undertaken in the ore of this new zone; the grade encountered is 0.305 oz. This zone is open in all directions. Additional drilling is planned in order to permit a new reserve calculation.

The section of this zone above the 11th level (1,450 ft) will be mined from the existing No 6 shaft which went into production July 1, 1988, at a rate of 500 tons per day. The extension in depth of the zone will be mined from the 2,700-ft shaft.

The company has more than 50,000 tons of ore stockpiled on surface. Plans call for a start June 15 of the milling of 75,000 tons at a rate of 1,500 tons per day. Milling will take place in Malartic at a facility owned by LAC Minerals (TSE), Rouyn’s equal partner in the Francoeur project.

The new 2,700-ft shaft at the Francoeur property is complete. Permanent equipment such as the loading and spill pockets is currently being installed. Each level, the company says, was advanced enough to give access to the ore and waste passes.

Hoisting of the first ore from the new shaft is scheduled for September. The company says the shaft should be producing 1,000 tons per day by early 1990.
