Initial raise proves promising at Mishibishu Lake project

High gold values are being encountered in the initial raise being developed at the Mishibishu Lake joint venture in northern Ontario, John McAdam, president of Flanagan McAdam Resources, reports. Flanagan McAdam, with a 50% interest in the project, is in partnership with Muscocho Explorations and Windarra Minerals, which each have a 25% interest.

Assays of face samples from the first six rounds of the raise average 2.74 oz gold per ton (uncut) across the 6.6-ft width of the raise. Muck samples for the same 47-ft length averaged 2.65 oz.

The raise doesn’t expose the total width of the vein, and test holes are being drilled into the walls to determine the full dimensions of the high grade zone. The raise is being advanced up-dip from a 155-ft section of drifting on the 1,250-ft elevation (350 ft below surface), which averaged 0.6 oz across an average width of 9.5 ft.

Results to date show continuity of the main vein both horizontally and vertically, and the average grades returned by systematic sampling in the drift and raise are substantially higher than those indicated by previous surface-based drilling, Mr McAdam reports.

A second raise is being started 300 ft east of the initial raise. The raise s are part of this year’s $10.6-million underground and surface program. Progress to date includes ramp advance of 1,200 ft, in addition to 2,100 ft of ramp and crosscut, plus 1,000 ft of exploration drifting on the 1,250-ft elevation (completed in 1986). Exploration drilling

Exploration drifting on the 1,050-ft elevation to confirm continuity of the main zone to vertical depth of 500 ft will begin early in July.

Recent surface diamond drilling concentrated on the down-dip extension of the main zone structure has resulted in confirmation of an eastern plunge to the gold zone, Mr McAdam reports. Results from holes in this area drilled to a maximum vertical depth of 800 ft range from 0.11 oz (across 6.3 ft) on up to 0.29 oz (across 6.2 ft).

Drilling in 1986 had identified the zone to a vertical depth of 1,150 ft in drill hole 86-05 which intersected 0.25 oz across 8.4 ft.

Surface mapping and prospecting to the east of the main zone has confirmed the gold-bearing structure over an additional strike length of 900 ft for a total strike length of at least 5,900 ft. Further work is under way to extend the known structure to the east.
