In a 60%-Inco, 40%-Golden Knight joint venture, the companies are already producing gold at a rate of 55,000 oz annually at the Casa Berardi East zone mine. A second “West zone” mine on the same property is scheduled to be in production by July 1990.
The drilling results just released are from an area 1,600 ft northeast of the Casa Berardi east mine, according to Steve Sopher, Inco Gold management’s vice-president, exploration.
They include results from eight holes which follow the original discovery (Hole 79651) announced March 14. Hole 79656, for example, intersected four mineralized zones in an area 165 ft west of the discovery hole, which was drilled to follow-up weak mineralization detected by previous drilling.
Using one drill rig, operator Inco is looking at what Sopher calls a “very complex vein system which appears like branches of a tree.
“Results are encouraging but there is more work to be done,” he told The Northern Miner.
Intercepts grading in excess of 0.08 oz gold per ton over 5 ft are as follows: Hole Interval Intersec- Oz gold/ No. (ft) tion(ft) ton 79656 629.5–642.1 12.6 0.20 79659 198.5–223.1 24.6 0.09
236.2–249.3 13.1 0.25 79657 352.6–357.6 5.0 0.25 79658 469.2–495.4 26.2 0.10 79655 862.3–877.1 14.8 0.19
More drilling must be completed before any decisions are made about future exploration, Sopher said.
