Harvey to remain as Hemlo President

Despite rumors to the contrary, Hemlo Gold Mines (TSE) President John Harvey says he has no plans to resign from his position. Harvey says he hopes to continue as president of the 50.8% owned Noranda (TSE) subsidiary after Alex Balogh becomes president and chief executive officer of Noranda Minerals, Jan. 1.

There will be no changes with regard to Hemlo Gold or any of its employees until Balogh, now president of Falconbridge Ltd., assumes his new responsibilities, according to Harvey.

Various alternatives including the transfer of Noranda’s 60% stake in the Freewest Resources (TSE) project into Hemlo have been considered by the Noranda group.

“But nothing is being discussed or contemplated at this time,” says Harvey.
