Drilling at Quebec’s Copper Rand mine returns higher grades of gold

Drilling of a newly discovered mineralized structure at the Copper Rand gold mine of MSV Resources (TSE) has uncovered significantly greater concentration of gold than is found in other parts of the mine.

Copper Rand, which is 5 miles southeast of Chibougamau, Que., contains proven and probable reserves of 3.3 million tons averaging 0.076 oz. gold per ton. Assay results for the new zone, which was found at the 1750 level (shown below), are generally much higher.

Meanwhile, MSV is in the midst of testing favorable sectors between levels 4000 and 5000. To date, six holes have been drilled, allowing MSV to establish the continuity, down to 5,000 ft. below surface, of the ore zones currently being mined.

During August, MSV set production records at the Copper Rand and nearby Portage mine. The two mines together produced 5,592 oz. gold and 1.59 million lb. copper. Meanwhile, the production, in July, of 6,472 oz. gold from the nearby Eastmain mine confirmed total gold recovery (90%) and grade (0.292 oz. per ton) of the ore mined.
