A new gold discovery has created some excitement in Benoit Twp., Que., not far from VSM’s Grevet base metal property. Quick to capitalize on the find, which returned 53.3 ft. grading 0.18 oz. gold per ton for Freewest Resources, Mint Gold Resources has acquired a 100% interest in 24 mining claims nearby. Mint Gold traded 10,000 shares in the week ended Feb. 19, gaining 5 cents to close at 80 cents.
Another company with claims in the area, Orphee Resources picked up 5 cents on the week to close at 75 cents on a volume of 5,000 shares. VSM and Serem Quebec can earn a 55% interest in Orphee’s base metal prospect by spending $750,000 on exploration. A 6-hole program recently completed on the property returned encouraging copper and zinc values, including 23 ft. grading 2.07% copper and 3.88% zinc at a depth of 1,800 ft.
The latest results from Strike Minerals’ copper-zinc property near Matachewan, Ont., suggests the sulphide-rich sequence of rocks discovered on the property last month extends at least 150 ft. to the west. Although the best intersection from the fifth hole on the property returned only 0.51% copper over 14 ft., the company says the hole hit the same exhalite sequence that hosts higher-grade copper and zinc values in holes 90-3 and 90-4.
Trading 37,000 shares, Strike Minerals gained 5 cents to close at 60 cents. CopperQuest, with an option on a 14-claim property next door, remained steady at 20 cents on 25,000 shares.
