Caribgold happy with Cuban results

Toronto-based junior Caribgold Resources (TSE) is encouraged by results from initial field work on its five joint-venture properties in Cuba.

Drilling is scheduled to begin soon at the Descanso-Melonera project near the west-central city of Santa Clara. Previous work by Cuban geologists at Descanso outlined a high-grade gold vein system along a 100-metre strike length. At Melonera, 5 km to the east, a similar system was recognized. Prospecting by Caribgold has uncovered new zones where panning has yielded up to 40 grains of gold. One of these zones, 1 km west of Descanso, has returned gold in panned soils over a 500-metre strike length. A bulldozer is stripping this anomaly.

Meanwhile, at the Camaguey project in east-central Cuba, a volcanic belt containing numerous epithermal alteration zones, similar to the Pueblo Viejo region of the Dominican Republic, has been delineated. Sampling on one of these zones yielded up to 11 grams gold per tonne. A 70-metre trench on this structure uncovered mineralization over its entire width. Channel sampling has been completed and results are pending.

At the Santa Clara project, exploration crews are in the process of evaluating more than 150 mineral occurrences. Work at the Pedro Barba prospect has delineated a mineralized vein system over several kilometers. Samples from this area have returned anomalous gold values of up to 2.4 grams. Sampling is also under way on the San Jose copper-gold zone where previous work by Cuban geologists returned 4-5 grams gold.

At the Sierra Maestra Oriental project near Santiago de Cuba, sampling of skarns has returned up to 2.4 grams gold. Several altered areas in the surrounding volcanics contain copper in veins and gold in panning, and sampling there is under way.

Just east of Havana, prospecting and soil sampling are in progress at the Havana-Matanzas project.
