The state-of-the-art precious metals facility will replace an existing operation located elsewhere in the plant and is expected to be completed in April, 1990, at a cost of $6.7 million(US).
Asarco says the new facility will increase the recovery rate of precious metals and the amount of zinc recovered from lead bullion refined at the local plant. Reductions in materials handling and energy requirements are expected.
The Asarco refinery has been in operation since 1870.
