Canadian Mining Journal Editor-in-Chief Tamer Elbokl spoke with economist, founder of the publication Critical Metals for a Sustainable World, and former vice-president with Scotiabank, Patricia Mohr at PDAC 2023 in Toronto in March. Mohr discussed Canada’s critical minerals potential, including in nickel, copper and rare earths — from mining to refining — as well as rising demand for minerals from solar and wind power.

According to Mohr, greater infrastructure spending by many governments coming out of the pandemic and industrial retooling towards lower carbon operations are also boosting demand for critical and base metals.
