Scorpio Mining (SMP-T) is off to a good start with its 20,000-metre drill program at the Nuestra Senora mine, 10 km east of Cosala, in Sinaloa state, Mexico.
Scorpio has recently received drill results from the ninth level of the underground mine, which is about 180 metres vertically below the third level ramp access portal.
Highlights from drilling include 42.2 metres grading 198 grams silver per tonne, 1.37% copper, 1.98% lead, 3.35% zinc and 0.24 gram gold per tonne.
Another hole returned 15 metres grading 207.56 grams silver, 1.01% copper, 1.91% lead, 1.95% zinc and 0.16 gram gold.
Scorpio released results from six holes in total. All were from the M-05 zone, which used to be known as the Jewel Box zone.
The company is planning further infill drilling in this area so that it can incorporate the ore into the mine plan for cut and fill extraction in 2011.
As a part of the drilling program, Scorpio is including some exploration drilling.
The project is accessible from Cosala via two heavy equipment roads that were constructed by Scorpio.
The property has five mineral exploitation claims on it covering an area of 19 sq. km and six exploration claims that make up 136 sq. km.
Scorpio began focusing on developing the underground and doing definition drilling of the Nuestra Senora deposit in 2005, discovering three other mineralized zones on the property.
The company reached commercial production in January 2009 and in the first year of production it produced 4.2 million lbs. lead, 1.2 million lbs. copper, 8.7 million lbs. zinc and 600,000 oz. silver.
