It is with great pleasure that I welcome the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s 72nd Annual International Convention Trade Show & Investors Exchange to Toronto. Several hundred years ago, the Huron Indians used a word meaning “meeting place” to describe the area where our city now stands. The PDAC annual convention truly reflects this notion. Renowned as the mining finance capital of the world, Toronto is the most appropriate setting for this unique gathering which brings together the full range of stakeholders involved in mineral exploration and development.
The contribution a convention of this scope brings to our city’s economic growth and prosperity is immeasurable. In 2003, the PDAC convention attracted 8,000 delegates from more than 70 different nations. This year’s event is promising to be even bigger and better.
Whether you are a first time visitor or have been to Toronto many times before, I invite you to visit our city and its vibrant neighbourhoods. Join us to experience world class theatre productions, enjoy inspired cuisine, and to network with mining colleagues from around the world.
On behalf of City Council and the people of Toronto, we look forward to meeting you in March, 2004.
