Labrador find sparks Inuit interest

Management of Diamond Fields Resources (TSE) has met with representatives of the Labrador Inuit Association to discuss development plans for the company’s Voisey Bay project on that region’s northeastern coast.

A nickel-copper-cobalt discovery, confirmed by recent drilling, has triggered a staking rush at Voisey Bay and the surrounding region. The discovery is 35 km southwest of the largely Inuit community of Nain and is within the Labrador Inuit settlement areas under discussion between the Inuit and the Newfoundland and federal governments.

Al Chislett, co-owner of Archean Resources (a private company conducting exploration for Diamond Fields), says government officials have apprised him of the land claims negotiations. He describes these meetings as “positive, and adds that his company has worked out of Nain for the past two years and has a “good relationship with the people there.
