Letters to the Editor (October 12, 1987)

Regarding the photo (of the old Bruce Mines, Ontario’s earliest copper producer) in the Sept 28 issue of The Northern Miner.

I prospected the Bruce Mines area over 20 years ago and had a few hangovers at the local hotel. I am not certain but believe those structures shown in the photo had to do with the loading onto boats of the crushed diabase rock (m ined locally). It was used in the concrete construction of some of the large American cities on the Great Lakes.

By the way, the Bruce Mines copper mines did occur in the diabase and mostly preceded the crushed rock operation. Maxwell Juby Agincourt, Que. P.S. You should continue this type of questionnaire in your paper.
