Encouraged by the discovery of five new zones at a property in Mexico, Morgain Minerals (MGM-V) has started a trenching program to determine their dimensions and grade.
This work will be followed by a drill program to further test the polymetallic skarn zones identified at the property, situated in Sonora state, 110 km northwest of Hermosillo.
Late last year, Morgain reported the discovery of two parallel skarn zones, known as East and West. The East zone, which contains silver-lead-zinc mineralization, was traced for a strike extent of 2.5 km. The silver-copper-gold-bearing West zone was traced for 1 km. Morgain notes, however, that outcrops of base-metal mineralization exist over an area measuring 13 km by 6 km.
Since the first two zones were discovered, Morgain has found three more base-metal zones. One of these measures 500 metres in length and 8-10 metres in width, and is situated 2 km northeast of a copper-zinc mine previously operated by a major company and now held by Morgain. The company plans to further explore this area, which contains a number of base-metal showings.
Two silver-bearing base-metal zones, dubbed Tizonc and Purga, were discovered some 6-10 km west of the two original discoveries. These zones were exposed on surface by a series of pits, adits and old underground workings. Chip and grab samples from the workings returned silver values up to 260 grams per tonne, zinc values up to 7.35% zinc, lead values up to 6.6% and copper values up to 1.22%, plus minor gold values.
