Cameco refinery sets record

For the past eight years, Cameco has operated its uranium refinery in Blind River, Ont., without once experiencing a lost-time accident.

In late January, company officials recognized the achievement at a reception held at the refinery.

In a company statement, Cameco Chief Operating Officer Josef Spross noted that the Blind River employees’ safety record “is an enviable accomplishment.”

Refinery Manager Catherine Green concurs: “Our employees are proud of this accomplishment because it reflects a standard for protecting people. If we do an excellent job of working safely and protecting the environment, then we are demonstrating that we can do an excellent job at everything else.”
