At the Dachine diamond property in French Guiana, bulk sampling by Guyanor Ressources (GRL.B-T) and Australian-owned BHP Minerals is nearing completion.
Since August, the partners have collected 207 tonnes of material from 10 pits situated over the strike length of the diamondiferous body. To date, 90 tonnes of material have been processed through a gravity jig plant to produce a heavy-mineral concentrate. The concentrate will be shipped to BHP’s laboratory in Reno, Nev., for diamond recovery.
The joint venture recently carried out geologic mapping and stream-sediment sampling across the 25-sq.-km property. Among the macrodiamonds recovered from 31 stream-sediment samples, the largest measured 2.7 mm.
The companies have meanwhile drilled an additional 30 auger holes in an attempt to define the property’s near-surface shape.
Newly identified outcrops have helped delineate the diamondiferous body, which ranges in width from 350 to 1,000 metres.
