Pentland hits at East Wetmore

Drill-testing of the East Wetmore prospect near Timmins, Ont., has intersected gold mineralization grading up to 223.6 grams per tonne.

Pentland Firth Ventures (PFO-T) drilled the holes as part of its Timmins exploration program, centred on the Bell Creek and Hoyle Pond mines operated by its affiliate, Kinross Gold (K-T). East Wetmore is about 1 km south of Pentland’s Schumacher property, where drilling since the spring of 1995 has intersected a substantial gold-bearing vein system.

Assays have been reported for five of the holes, and all intersected some gold mineralization.

Hole PW-13 cut a 7.7-metre intersection grading 5.5 grams gold per tonne, which included a 1.2-metre interval with 15.1 grams. PW-16 intersected 5.8 metres grading 10.6 grams, with a 2.4-metre interval showing a gold content of 22.6 grams.

Other intersections included 0.7 metre grading 7.5 grams per tonne in PW-12, and 5.5 grams over 0.5 metre and 5.8 grams over 0.4 metre, both in PW-15.

The gold mineralization is in foliated mafic volcanic rocks that are profoundly altered and contain about 5% pyrrhotite with traces of arsenopyrite. Compared with the mineralization at nearby prospects, this gold occurrence is unusually rich in sulphides, suggesting it may not be part of the same mineralizing event as the other occurrences. It is well south of the other occurrences as well.

Pentland has moved its drill on to the Marlhill and Allerston properties, northwest of the Wetmore prospect. Drilling there will occur during the spring breakup.
