Fluor sells iron ore unit

International engineering and construction firm Fluor Corp. of Irvine, Calif., has sold its stake in the Pea Ridge Iron Ore Co. to Big River Minerals for nearly $12 million. Based in Sullivan, Miss., the iron ore unit has been carried by Fluor as a discontinued operation since 1987. Pea Ridge operates an iron mine and pelletizing plant which produces iron pellets used in the production of steel. The sale will result in a non-recurring after- tax gain of less than 10 cents per share for Fluor in the third quarter ending July 31.
