Great Lakes negotiates processing by Copper Range

Copper ore from the 543-S project of Great Lakes Minerals (TSE) in Michigan’s Keweenaw Cty. will be processed by Copper Range Co., a unit of Metall Mining (TSE), under a deal being negotiated by the companies.

Copper Range has a mining, milling, smelting and refining operation near White Pine, Mich. Great Lakes says the 543-S project is scheduled to enter production during the second half of 1993 and to produce at a rate of about 25 million lb. copper per year.

Great Lakes says the ore will be trucked to Copper Range under a life-of-mine processing agreement which should be signed by Feb. 15 and which is subject to state government approval.
