In May 1996, Ego Resources (EGO-T) produced 14,700 lb. of cobalt, up from 7,600 lb. in April. At current spot prices, May’s production had a market value of about US$400,000.
The company’s Cobatec cobalt recovery and refining facility is near Cobalt, Ont. The finished product, cobalt carbonate, is produced using a hydrometallurgical recovery process.
Cobalt production in June is expected to be at least 17,000 lb. Ego projects that production will increase gradually by about 2,000 lb. per month for the balance of this year.
