Bulk sampling will begin immediately on a diamond project held by BHP Minerals Canada and Dia Met Minerals (TSE) in the Lac de Gras region of the Northwest Territories.
BHP recently awarded the contract for the sampling project to Canadian Mine Development, the contracting and engineering division of Hillsborough Resources (TSE).
The program is expected to be completed within a year, which is fueling speculation that more than one diamondiferous kimberlite will be tested. BHP Minerals and Dia Met expect to release details of the program shortly, including information on whether the bulk sample will be extracted by large-diameter drills and/or an underground decline.
At the same time, the partners expect to release the first quality assessment of the macro-diamonds recovered from previous drilling and sampling. BHP is assembling a recovery plant on the property to process kimberlite from the bulk-sampling program. A new 2,000-ft. airstrip was recently completed on the property.
