First week in June set for Ontario Mining Week

The Ontario Mining Association, in co-operation with the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and other mining groups, has scheduled the second annual Ontario Mining Week for June 3-7. Objectives of Mining Week are to focus attention on the importance of mining in the economic and social development of the province and as an investment opportunity, and to demonstrate the link between minerals and products used in everyday life. In addition, the organizers hope to heighten awareness of significant developments in environmental protection, worker safety and improved technology, and encourage young Ontarians to pursue careers in mining. Mining Week also pays tribute to individuals, firms and communities for outstanding contributions to the industry. The first annual Ontario Mining Week was staged in October, 1990. By changing the date, the organizers are hoping June will provide more consistently favorable weather and more schoolchildren will be able to attend the activities.
