Three environment-related research and cleanup projects will receive grants from Ontario’s Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.
The ministry will contribute $15,000 to Falconbridge Ltd.’s study of flooding as a method to cover and neutralize high sulphur mine tailings. The company will also get $325,000 to evaluate compost as a cover material for acid-generating tailings.
Meanwhile, the town of Cobalt will be provided with $192,400, in addition to the $337,000 it was given earlier this year, to remedy recently discovered dangerous ground conditions in the community.
