De Beers funds lab at U of A

A partnership between De Beers Canada and the University of Alberta has given rise to Canada’s first diamond research laboratory.

The diamond miner will donate $100,000, which will be used for equipment to help researchers understand diamond formation and to help locate deposits.

At the opening ceremony, De Beers Canada President Richard Molyneux said the “laboratory will make a valuable contribution to our scientific understanding and support the Canadian diamond industry.”

The lab will be headed by Thomas Stachel, chair of diamond research at the University of Alberta.
