The mine, which produces about 2.5% of the non-Communist world’s copper output, has been shut down since its 1,260 unionized workers went on strike July 6.
Highland Valley is owned 50% by Cominco Ltd. (TSE), 33.6% by Rio Algom (TSE), 13.98% by Teck Corp. (TSE) and 2.5% by Highmont Mining.
