Hymas talks on Rand practices at Toronto CIM

A slide presentation, he will describe a variety of development methods and products which are unusual to North Americans, and will reveal some interesting policies on research philosophy and environmental confrontations.

Despite low productivities in many of those operations, the extreme mining depths and high rock temperatures hold increasing relevance for Canadian mining. Many of the Rand practices, particularly in ground control and seismic monitoring, are as advanced as those in this country.

With a mining engineering degree from the U.K., Hymas joined the Falconbridge organization in Canada in 1953. He subsequently worked at a number of other mining operations in this country, including the Lake Shore, Kerr Addison, Pamour and Rio Algom in Ontario, Craigmont in B.C. and with the firm of Ditchburn and Associates (Molycorp) in New Mexico. He joined Teck Corp. in 1965.
