Cambior Inc. (TSE) has decided to put its wholly-owned Eldrich- Flavell property into production, President Louis Gignac said at the company’s annual meeting in Montreal.
The mine, located about nine miles west of Rouyn, Que., is expected to produce 18,000 oz of gold in 1988 with full production reached in 1989. Annual gold production should be 36,000-41,000 oz. after that.
Underground exploration has been continuing on the property. Mineable reserves currently stand at 1.58 million tons with a diluted grade of 0.15 oz gold per ton. Of that, 234,000 tons grading 0.14 oz., diluted, is in proven category. A 12,000-ton metallurgical sample indicated a recovery rate of 94.4 % with a head grade of 0.17 oz.
Ore from Eldrich-Flavell will be trucked to the Vezina mill about 30 miles northwest of the mine.
Average production costs over the life are estimated at $340(C) per oz. About $20 million has been spent on the property to date.
