LETTERS Unmentioned

Patrick Whiteway’s article entitled “Artificial Operators,” in the July issue, was very interesting and informative. The quality of the article was unfortunately marred, in our view, by the way you handled the supplementary story called “Who’s Already Automated.” In this section you referred twice to our competitor’s control system but failed to mention that Brenda Mines has a system manufactured by Fisher Controls, as does Rio Algom’s Stanleigh mine at Elliot Lake (featured in the photograph). Noranda’s Geco mill is controlled by another supplier.

In the future we would suggest you do justice to all suppliers or not to any. E. S. Bianchin, Industry Manager, Mining and Metals, Fisher Controls Co. of Canada (Editor’s note: Foxboro Canada Inc. of La Salle, P.O., manufactured the control system at the Geco mill.)
