What is the Saskatchewan formula to find a gold deposit? Find yourself a dog called Jasper and a talented prospector-partner named Richard Kuzmirski and put them in the La Ronge gold belt.
The newest gold discovery in Saskatchewan has a canine connection and five companies: Golden Rule Resources, Goldsil Resources, Shore Gold Fund, Mahogany Minerals and Saskatchewan Mining Development Corp. are reaping the benefit of this paws-on method of prospecting.
The find appropriately called the Jasper zone, has taken the stocks of these three public companies to all- time highs this year.
All of the excitement is taking place on the joint ventures north of McLennan Lake, 90 miles north of La Ronge, by the four companies. A northerly property, the Fork Lake venture, is operated by S.M.D.C. (36%), Golden Rule (30%), Mahogany Minerals (19%) and Shore Gold (15%), whereas the adjoining southerly property, the Transom Lake venture, is operated by Goldsil (51%). The other two partners are Golden Rule (30%) and S.M.D.C. (19%).
The discovery, made this past June, comprises a strong striking steep west-dipping shear zone in granitoid rocks that crosses the common property boundary. The structure can be traced for a total of 1,500 m on both properties. The shear zone is up to 20 m wide, but gold-bearing consistently up to 3.5 m. The weighted average of six trenches over a strike length of 550 m is 1.32 oz per ton (uncut) over three metres.
Results released Sept 28 from holes Nos 1 and 2 drilled on the Transom Lake venture substantiated the high grade character of the zone to a depth of 135 ft. Hole Interval Width Angle Grade No. ft ft direction oz/ton 1 71.5- 78.7 7.2 45 degrees W 10.20 2 161.7-176.5 14.8 45 degrees W 1.16 Results of holes 3 through 6 are pending. Reportedly typical intense sheared textures of pyritized quartz of comparable widths were encountered in the four holes. Hole 7, directed eastward, commenced Sept 29 and is targeted for deeper levels of the zone.
It would appear that the companies have a major discovery on their hands and that an all-out attack to evaluate this exceptional find will take place in the coming months.
