The Society of Economic Geologists (SEG) has opened the doors at its new headquarters in Littleton, Colo., a suburb of Denver.
The building was the result of several anonymous donations totalling more than US$4.8 million.
More than 200 people were on hand at the dedication ceremony.
Established in 1920, SEG is an international organization of industry, academic and government scientists, including 500 members in Canada.
Among the organization’s programs is the SEG Foundation, which supports educational and research activities in economic geology. SEG recently created a similar foundation in Canada and is seeking tax exemptions.
The program will support Canadian university students through field trips, conferences and other programs, as well as research grants in co-operation with the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council.
Canada has 10 student chapters of SEG, representing 11 universities.
