Birim Goldfields keeps drills turning at Opon

Encouraged by successful drilling, Birim Goldfields (BGI-T) is stepping up exploration efforts at its Opon prospect in Ghana.

February’s 17-hole, 1,075-metre reverse-circulation (RC) program defined a broad structure dipping 25-40 to the northwest, and 16 of those holes intersected gold mineralization in near-surface saprolitic material. Gold-bearing intersections also contained a higher-grade payshoot, plunging gently to the north in the plane of the main zone. Highlights included:

– 18 metres (from 11 metres) grading 2.64 grams gold per tonne in hole 37;

– 26 metres (from surface) of 1.98 grams gold in hole 38; and

– 24 metres (from surface) of 1.25 grams in hole 42.

Birim’s follow-up 36-hole, 2,155-metre RC campaign will be carried out on lines 50 metres apart with collars at 25-metre intervals. The work will test the northern and southern extensions of the previously drilled main zone, as well as a parallel structure identified to the east. Drilling is to be completed by mid-April.
