A statement in the Facts ‘n’ Figures column of our Feb. 7-13 issue indicated that development by Lyon Lake Mines of its Cerro Crucitas deposit in Costa Rica is on hold.
This information appeared in a report issued in December 1999 by Metals Economics Group. At about the same time that the report was published, Lyon Lake applied for an exploitation permit for the deposit. A decision is pending.
In an article on Bactech Metallurgical Solutions (T.N.M., Jan. 31-Feb. 6/00), the total production cost of copper bio-leaching at the Mt. Lyell mine in Tasmania, based on a test case, was erroneously stated as being 68 per lb. copper.
A preliminary study showed that, assuming a 10-year mine life at Mt. Lyell, the total operating and capital cost for the bio-leach and solvent extraction-electrowinning circuit would be US24-27 per lb. copper.
