Cominco Ltd., a Canadian based international mineral exploration, mining, smelting and refining company, has a professional opportunity in Trail, B.C., where we operate one of the world’s largest integrated zinc and lead smelters.

We require an experienced inorganic chemical analyst to work in Cominco’s Analytical Services department. With a staff of approximately 35, the laboratory provides round-the-clock analysis in support of our Trail Operations, routinely analysing feed materials, products, process samples, environmental samples and industrial hygiene samples using a variety of classical and instrumental techniques.

In addition to post-secondary training in chemistry, you have 3-5 years’ relevant experience in an industrial setting. You must be familiar with a large range of analytical methods and be comfortable working to produce high-quality results in a fast-paced environment. BC Assayer Certification or an equivalent combination of training and experience is an asset.

ROCK MECHANICS ENGINEER

VANCOUVER ISLAND

The successful candidate will be a Rock Mechanics Engineer with a t least 10 years relevant experience. Excellent communication skills are required, as well as a demonstrated ability to develop and implement new geotechnical programs.

This position will interact closely with fellow mining professionals and the general workforce at the Myra falls operation, as well as the Boliden Research and Development group. The rock mechanics engineer will create and deliver new and advanced rock mechanics programs which integrate international ground control methods and technologies.

Reporting to the Chief Geologist, the rock mechanics engineer will work independently in administering the day to day operations of existing geotechnical programs and develop the relevant technologies to evaluate new producing areas and mining methods. The position will be responsible for determining the effect of rock behavior in compensation to mining activities and propose the necessary ground reinforcement to facilitate safe and efficient underground operation.

OPERATIONS MANAGER

Alluvial Gold and Diamonds Operations

West Africa

Mano Trade and Finance, a subsidiary of VSE and AIM-listed Mano Rvier Resources Inc., is seeking an Operations manager to develop alluvial gold and diamond deposits within the company’s licences. The mode of operation will be through the establishment of join ventures with co-operatives of local licenced miners, under the auspices of the Ministry of Mines.

The Operations Manager, reporting directly to the Company’s CEO, will establish production teams within a unit operating as an independent profit centre. He will be responsible for establishing the objectives, organization, and running of each joint venture project and will supervise the selection, acquisition and installation of equipment.

In addition, working in close co-operation with the Company’s exploration staff, he will define the location of projects so as to maximize the benefit of these operations to the Company’s hard rock exploration programme.

The Manager will be based in West Africa and the post requires considerable time to be spent in the field. Experience of designing, equipping and managing small to medium scale mineral production units in sub-Saharan Africa, including all aspects of relationships with the local miners, is essential.

The post will be offered on contract with renewal dependant on the successful start-up of operations. Salary negotiable depending on candidate and experience. A bonus will be payable linked to results and stock options will be offered in the parent company, which controls a large number of highly prospective mineral licences in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea on which drill programmes are now being initiated.

SENIOR MINE ENGINEER

Reporting to the Chief Mine engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer is accountable for overseeing engineering services provided by the Mine engineering Department for the open pit and underground mining operations. He actively participates in mine planning, ground control, ventilation, reporting, budget reviews, and economic evaluations. He replaces the Chief Engineer during his absence. The successful candidate will be part of a mining team which incorporates the mining, engineering and geology departments.

Incumbent must have a mine engineering degree, and must be eligible for Professional Engineering certification from the province of Quebec. The successful candidate will possess 8-10 years experience working in a related position in a mine setting. Ideally, applicants should have experience working at a senior engineering or management level in both open pit and underground operations. Applicant must possess A-Mine and Data Mine computer knowledge and mine related computer applications. Postulant must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills. Fluency in both English and French will be greatly considered.

Rotation schedule is four (4) weeks on-site and two (2) weeks off-site, or possible other option.
