Ashanti drilling in Niger

Ashanti Goldfields (ASL-N) has begun drilling on the Nassile gold concession in Niger.

The 9,000-metre program is designed to test the Tampena geochemical anomaly, situated in the southwestern portion of the 1,150-sq.-km concession.

The zone averages 600 metres wide and more than 8 km long. Trenching indicates zones longer than 5 metres averaging up to 20 grams gold per tonne. The zone is believed to be an extension of a gold belt in Burkina Faso, where significant artisanal mining is ongoing.

Ashanti is earning a 45% interest in the property by spending US$500,000 on exploration; it can increase this to 60% either by spending US$900,000 on exploration or producing a feasibility study. The property is one of several concessions that make up Ashanti’s Saoura project.

Royalstar Resources (RYA-V) holds a 90% interest in Nassile, with the government holding the rest.
