A mapping and sampling program is under way to test a gold zone discovered by Holmer Gold Mines (HGM-A) on its Matahambre West concession in western Cuba.
The company detected the near-surface gold zone during initial exploration of the Holmer gold belt.
Called B-1, the zone lies within an oxide gossan hill at the eastern end of the 12-km-long belt. It is about 4 km along strike from an open-pit, heap-leach gold mine and a known lead-zinc-copper-silver deposit.
Sampling at the north end of the B-1 discovery returned 2.43 grams gold per tonne over 22 metres, whereas sampling at the southern end returned 2 grams gold over 11 metres.
Several grab samples taken from a road cut, some 100 metres to the east, returned 3.2 grams and 6.7 grams, respectively. Holmer notes that the B-1 zone is open along strike.
The company has interests in other base and precious metals properties in Cuba; these are held in a joint venture with the country’s state-owned mining company.
