A third gold discovery has been made on the Eastmain West property of Virginia Gold Mines (ME) and Diabior Explorations (ME), about 250 km northeast of Matagami, Que.
An induced-polarization (IP) anomaly has proved to be a fracture zone 17 metres wide, with arsenopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Chip sampling on the bedrock surface returned an average of 1 gram gold per tonne over the 17-metre width of the zone, with a 3-metre interval in that width grading 3.5 grams per tonne.
Recent assays from channel sampling on the LA showing were 12.48, 14.26 and 17.7 grams gold per tonne in 1-metre samples. On the K showing, channel sampling results included 2.5 metres of 1.8 grams, 3 metres of 1.7 grams and 2 metres of 2 grams gold per tonne.
The companies will drill all three surface showings in December.
The property is a joint venture with Quebec Crown corporation Societe Quebecoise d’Exploration Miniere (Soquem).
