Exploration work in the Harp Lake area of Labrador has turned up gold mineralization for Ascot Resources (VSE).
The company made the discovery within a diorite sill on its wholly owned claims near Shapio Lake, 135 km south of Nain.
Gold, galena and pyrite mineralization are associated with en echelon, southwesterly trending quartz veins within the diorite.
Five trenches exposed the zone across widths of 2 to 5 metres and a strike length of 70 metres. Continuous chip sampling across the zone returned an average of 2.6 grams gold per tonne across 4.3 metres in one trench.
Gold values from the other trenches ranged from less than 0.5 gram up to 3.0 grams, and random sampling of narrow quartz stringers within the surrounding monzonite also returned gold values.
Ascot is mobilizing a drill to test the structure for improved grade and continuity at depth.
