OBITUARY — JOHN PATERSON

John Paterson, a prominent mining engineer, has died following a brief illness.

At the time of his death in Vancouver, B.C., Dr. Paterson was a director and executive vice-president of operations for Diamond Fields Resources.

A native of Scotland, Paterson was educated at McGill University in Montreal, where he was awarded the Gold Medal for Engineering and earned his doctorate in metallurgy.

He had, since 1973, been a member of the faculty of engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Dr. Paterson was also a recipient of the Engineering Society’s Golden Apple award for teaching excellence.

During the course of his career, he held senior positions with a number of mining companies and associations, including Inco, Amax Canada, Canada Tungsten, Fairbanks Gold and the Primary Tungsten Association.
