Vancouver — Toronto-based Vena Resources (VEM-V) plans to carry out 2,000 metres of drilling on a porphyry system at the Aurora property in Peru’s Yauri-Andahuaylas metallogenic corridor.
The geologically prospective belt is well-known for its copper-gold-molybdenum porphyry deposits, such as Antapaccay and Las Chancas, and its copper skarn deposits, including Tintaya and Las Bambas.
Aurora was previously drilled in the 1990s. That program outlined a porphyry system with a surface expression measuring 1,600 by 500 metres, which remains open at depth.
Vena recently assayed core from six holes that showed the mineralized target has moly values as high as 0.6%.
Hole 5 returned 0.2% copper over 289.1 metres, slightly below the original grade of 0.22%, which includes 116.1 metres of 0.4% copper, as well as other higher-grade intervals.
The company notes, however, that a relatively high-grade zone of copper (greater than 0.5%) with associated moly values appears to be present and will be tested in the ongoing program. This target will be the main focus of the 2,000-metre program.
Other porphyry outcrops have been identified in the immediate vicinity, prompting the company to stake additional ground.
